WEATHER DURING THE WEEK ENDING ON   24-06-2009 

CHIEF FEATURES : 

SouthWest Monsoon further advanced into some more parts of Central Arabian sea and some parts of North Konkan  and Madhya Maharashtra on 21st June. TheNorthern Limit of Monsoon  passed through Latitude 180 N / Longitude 600 E, Latitude 180N/Longitude 700 E, alibag, Pune, Solapur, and hyderabad. It further advanced   into entire Central Arabian sea, some parts of North Arabian sea, that of South Gujarat region and Saurashtra and Kutch, remaining parts of North Konkan  (including Mumbai) and some more parts of North Madhya Maharashtra on 24th June The Northern Limit of Monsoon passed through Latitude 230 N /Longitude 650 E, Bhuj, Baroda, Nasik, Sholapur and Hyderabad.

Severe heat wave condition prevailed over vidarbha  on 21st .Severe  heat wave conditions  prevailed over parts of  east Vidharbha on 23rdJune.

                    WEATHER AND ASSOCIATED SYNOPTIC FEATURES :

 

         Last week`s feeble trough of low pressure on the surface level chart extending

          from South Maharashtra-Goa coast to Lakshadweep-Maldive area persisted on 18th. It lay as

          a trough of low pressure on surface level chart off South Maharashtra-Goa coast to Kerala coast 

         on 19th .It persisted on 20th. It lay off North Maharashtra Coast to Kerala Coast on 21st morning

                An upper air cyclonic circulation lay off Goa- Karnataka coast between 2.1 and 5.8 km

         above sea level on 19th. It lay over East Central Arabian sea off South Maharashtra-Goa coast

        and extend upto 7.6 kms above sea level on 20th. It lay off Maharashtra-Goa coast and extended

        upto 7.6 kms above sea level on 21st morning.

                      A low pressure area formed over East Central Arabian sea on 21st evening. Associated

       upper air cyclonic circulation extended upto 7.6 kms. above sea level. The trough of low pressure

      on the surface level chart now extended from the above system to Kerala coast. The low pressure

      area persisted over the same area on 22nd morning. Associated upper air cyclonic circulation

      extended upto 7.6 kms. above sea level. The trough of low pressure on surface level chart now

      extended from the system to Lakshadweep area. It lay over East Central Arabian sea  and

      neighbourhood on 22nd evening, Associated upper air cyclonic circulation extended upto

     mid-tropospheric level. The trough of low pressure on surface level chart extended from the

     above system to Lakshadweep area. The low pressure area intensified into a Depression and

     lay centered at 0000 UTC of 23rd June within half a degree of latitude 18.0 deg. N and longitude

     71.5 deg. E about 180 kms. south west of Mumbai and 400 kms. southsouthwest of Surat.

    It moved slightly northwards and lay centred at 0300 UTC of 23rd June within half a deg of

    lat.19.0 deg.N and long 71.5 deg.E about 150kms west of Mumbai and 300 kms. southsouthwest

    of Surat. Associated upper air cyclonic circulation extended upto 7.6 kms. above sea level.The trough

      of low pressure on surface level chart now extended from the above system to Lakshadweep area.

      It moved northwards and then northwestward and lay centered at 1200UTC of 23rd June over

      Northeast Arabian sea and neighbourhood within half a degree of latitude 20.5 deg. N/

       longitude 71.0 deg. E close to Diu. . Associated upper air cyclonic circulation extended upto

       7.6 kms. above sea level. The trough of low pressure on the surface level chartnow extended

       from the above system to Lakshadweep area. The depression moved northwestwards and

      crossed the coast near Diu of South Gujarat coast between 1300 and 1500 UTC of 23rd June.

      It weakened into a well marked low pressure area and lay over Saurashtra and Kutch and

      neighbourhood

      on 24 morning. Associated upper air cyclonic circulation extended upto mid-tropospheric

      level. The trough of low pressure on surface level chart now extended from South Gujarat

      coast  to Lakshadweep area. The well marked low pressre area  over Saurashtra

      and Kutch and neighbourhood persisted over the same area on 24th evening. Associated

      upper air cyclonic circulation extended upto 3.1 kms above sea level. The trough of low

      pressure on surface level chart extended from South Gujarat coast to Lakshadweep area

      persisted.

                Another  upper air cyclonic circulation lay over west Rajasthan and adjoining areas

      extending upto 2.1 kms above sea level on 19th. It extended upto 0.6 kms on 20th.  It

      moved away northeastwards on 21st.

          Generally Westerly to North Westerly winds prevailed in the lower levels over the

      region on 18th

              45 degrees Celsius recorded at Brahmapuri and Chandrapur on 18th, at a number of

      places on 19th, at Brahmapuri on 20 and at Nagpur on 21st was the highest maximum

     temperature over the region during the week.
